Saint Ephrem the New – 22 × 14 cm

Saint Ephrem the New was an Orthodox Christian monk and martyr who lived in the 15th century (c. 1384–1426 AD). He was born in Trikala, Greece, and later became a monk at the Monastery of the Annunciation on Mount Amomon (modern-day Nea Makri).

During the period of Ottoman rule in Greece, he was captured by raiders and suffered prolonged torture for his Christian faith. He spent months imprisoned and was ultimately martyred within the monastery grounds, where his relics were later discovered.

In the Orthodox Christian tradition, he is venerated as a great martyr and is especially invoked for healing, relief from illness, and help in serious or chronic health conditions. Many faithful pray to him for physical healing, recovery after trauma, and strength in suffering.

He is commemorated on May 5 in the Orthodox Church.
