Saint Demetrios the New of Bucharest – 22 × 14 cm

Saint Demetrios the New of Bucharest is an Orthodox Christian saint who lived in the 13th century (c. 1200s AD). He was born in the village of Basarabov (in present-day Bulgaria) and lived as a monk in ascetic solitude near the Lom River, dedicating his life to prayer, fasting, and spiritual discipline.

After his death, his relics were discovered incorrupt and later transferred to Bucharest, where they are preserved in the Patriarchal Cathedral. Since then, he has been especially venerated in Romania as a protector of the city of Bucharest.

In the Orthodox Christian tradition, he is regarded as a wonderworking saint, invoked for protection, healing, and help in times of illness, hardship, and danger.

He is commemorated on July 27 in the Orthodox Church.
