Saint John the New of Suceava is a 14th-century martyr venerated in the Orthodox Church for his steadfast confession of Christ. He was a merchant from Trebizond who traveled for trade but remained firm in the Orthodox faith.
During a journey, he was arrested by a local ruler after refusing to abandon Christianity and accept another faith. Because of his unwavering confession of Christ, he was subjected to torture and ultimately martyred. His courage and faith made him a powerful witness to the truth of the Gospel.
After his martyrdom, his holy relics were transferred to Suceava, where they became a source of great spiritual blessing and miracles for the faithful. He is honored as a protector and intercessor, especially for those who remain faithful under trial.
His feast day is celebrated on June 24.
