The icon depicts Saint Spyridon, a humble 4th-century bishop of Trimythous, known for his deep faith, simplicity, and miraculous works. He participated in the First Council of Nicaea, where he defended the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. He is also remembered for the miracle in which he explained the Trinity using a clay tile that miraculously became fire, water, and earth in his hands. Saint Spyridon is venerated as a wonderworker and protector, especially honored on the island of Corfu, where his relics are preserved and carried in processions.
Saint Spyridon is celebrated in the Orthodox Church on December 12.
