STUDIES

Green tea and its constituents have been shown to possess anti-obesity properties, with polyphenols and polysaccharides considered responsible for its suppressive effect on body weight gain and fat accumulation in rat experiments. These components may also improve blood lipid levels, reduce leptin levels, and inhibit fatty acid absorption. A clinical study in women with central obesity showed that administration of a high dose of green tea extract (Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, EGCG) for 12 weeks led to a significant reduction in body weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), and waist circumference. In addition, experiments in mouse models showed that a green tea extract may increase mitochondrial metabolism in adipocytes, enhancing thermogenesis and contributing to reduced body weight and fat. The herbal supplement Garcinia cambogia, which contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), has been studied for its effects on obesity markers. A systematic review and meta-analysis based on eight clinical trials concluded that Garcinia cambogia supplementation significantly reduced participants’ body weight by -1.34 kg. Clinical studies have shown that the tropical plant Garcinia cambogia, which is rich in hydroxycitric acid, naturally inhibits the formation of fat (as well as cholesterol and triglycerides) and reduces appetite, without affecting the nervous system.
