Pilgrimages to Mount Athos after Easter/Pascha

Pilgrimages to Mount Athos after Easter/Pascha

With the blessing of His Eminence Atanasie, Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the diocesan pilgrimage centre ‘Saint Brendan the Navigator’ will organise, during the post-Paschal period, a series of pilgrimages to Mount Athos, in response to the many requests received from the faithful throughout our Archdiocese.

Also known as the Garden of the Mother of God, Mount Athos is one of the holiest places in Orthodox Christianity, being home to more than twenty monasteries and to an uninterrupted monastic life of over one thousand years. A pilgrimage to Athos represents for every believer a profound spiritual experience: prayer alongside the monks, participation in the night services, and the peace and grace of these blessed places often remain engraved in the heart for the rest of one’s life.

In the bright period following the feast of the Resurrection of the Lord, such pilgrimages may become for the participants an occasion of spiritual strengthening, recollection, and inner renewal, in a spirit of prayer and closeness to God.
