Saint Panteleimon came from Nicomedia in Asia Minor. He lived and martyred during the reign of Maximian (286-305 A.D.). He was trained in medicine and was initiated to the Christian faith by Ermolaos the Elder, a priest of the Church of Nicomedia. He was known for his miracles by the power of his faith which became the reason he martyred and died, after he convinced all the soldiers, present to his martyrdom, to believe in Christ. When the executioner thrust his sword to cut off the head of the Saint, the sword bent and the iron melted like wax.
