Saint Nectarios of Aegina

Saint Nectarios of Aegina (1846–1920) was born in Thrace and became one of the most respected hierarchs and spiritual fathers of the Orthodox Church in modern times. From his youth, he showed great love for God, prayer, and service to others. He studied theology, became a monk and priest, and later was ordained Bishop of Pentapolis in Egypt.

Known for his humility, kindness, and wisdom, Saint Nectarios endured many trials throughout his life, including unjust accusations and hardships, which he accepted with patience, forgiveness, and complete trust in God. After returning to Greece, he dedicated himself to spiritual guidance and founded the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity on the island of Aegina, where he spent the final years of his life in prayer and service.

Saint Nectarios was gifted with deep spiritual insight and is especially venerated as a healer of the sick and a protector of those suffering from illness and difficulties. Numerous miracles have been attributed to his prayers, and many faithful turn to him seeking healing, comfort, strength, and hope.

His life teaches the virtues of humility, forgiveness, patience, love for others, and unwavering faith in God. After his repose in 1920, his holy relics became a source of blessing and healing for countless believers.

The Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Nectarios of Aegina annually on 9 November.
