The figure of Saint George dominates in portable icons and frescos. This particular icon portrays Saint George sitting on a throne and not on horseback as it is commonly used, while the dried blood from his face wound, reminds the time when an Iconoclast wounded him with a knife during the Iconoclasm period. According to the tradition, although the icon was thrown to the fire, it was kept intact and the fire was extinguished.
